A quiet place on the water

Sea Wolf is an A-frame cabin set among the trees on the western shore of Hood Canal. Two bedrooms, plus an alcove with two extra twin beds. The property sits right at the water's edge, with a deck and balcony overlooking the canal and the Olympic Mountains beyond. It is a simple, unhurried place — good for reading, cooking, and watching the tide come in.

What to expect

On the water

The cabin sits directly on Hood Canal. Watch seals, herons, and the occasional otter from the deck with your morning coffee.

The deck

A large deck with hammocks, plus two upstairs balconies — one facing the water. Wide enough for dinner with friends, quiet enough for an afternoon alone with a book.

Wood stove

A cast-iron wood stove heats the main living space. Firewood is provided. On cool evenings the cabin warms quickly, and the sound of a fire fills the room.

Wooded & wild

The property is surrounded by forest. Douglas squirrels are regular visitors. Eagles circle overhead. It is common to see no one else for the duration of your stay.

Quilcene

A small town with great local spots. Quilcene Village Store for groceries and supplies, Quilbilly's for burgers and local beer, and the Quilcene Lantern for live music. Olympic National Forest trailheads are a short drive away.

Nearby

Finnriver Farm & Cidery in Chimacum is worth an afternoon. Concerts in the Woods at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center is within walking distance. Port Townsend, about an hour north, is full of shops, restaurants, and things to do.

Getting here

About two hours from Seattle via the Kingston ferry or the Tacoma Narrows bridge.

The area

Hood Canal is a natural fjord on the western edge of Puget Sound. The water is tidal and calm. The surrounding forest is Douglas-fir, hemlock, and alder, with ferns, salal, and wild berries filling in the understory. Olympic National Forest trails are easily accessible. Mushroom hunters, birders, amateur geologists, and nature lovers of all kinds will find plenty to explore.

In summer the days are long and the light lingers. In winter the storms are worth watching from behind the glass, and the rain on the tin roof is half the reason to come.
